Its almost Race Day ...

And its time to chill. With the run being tomorrow you don't want fatigue your body anymore than it needs to be as you want to fresh and ready. So take today as a rest day to give your body and muscles time to prepare for the race ahead. Doing some yoga or stretching could benefit if you have current tight leg muscles - i know I will be foam rolling my hamstrings as they are ridiculously tight.

Alongside resting you need to make sure you are fuelling your body with nutritious wholesome foods and yes you guessed it carbs :) drink plenty of water and get an early night. So yes it probably wouldn't be the best idea to have a night on the town. Running with a hangover isn't fun believe me.

RACE DAY

Get up and have a decent breakfast - slow releasing carbs and protein is your best bet. I would suggest a big bowl of proats (protein oats) or have 2 breakfasts eggs and oats. This will set you up for the day supplying your muscles with the energy they will need later one.

Then an hour before hand I would recommend having something more simple carb based that will release energy faster so you utilise them as you start running. This could be something like a banana and nut butter, homemade energy balls/flapjacks. It needs to be high in natural sugars but not too filing as you might feel sick when running.

Here is a recipe for you to try:


Makes 6

1 banana

5 dates or 1 packet of Beloved Date Hearts

15g date nectar (Beloved)

10g almond flour (Sukrin)

1 tsp guarani powder (MyProtein)

1 tsp lucuma powder (MyProtein)

1 tsp chia seeds (KaizenLiving)

1 1/2 scoops vanilla protein powder (I used Sunwarrior)

Almond milk to create consistency

Desiccated coconut for decoration

Blend all together, roll into balls, coat in coconut, store in the fridge

As its 10k you don't need anything intra workout you will be fine - drink the water they give you and keep going :) Remember to pace yourself and not sprint off at the start otherwise you will burn out too quickly.

When you finish please try and cool down and stretch then go and eat !! Celebrate your achievement and enjoy :)
